Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes ‘has found solitude’

Former Barcelona goalkeeper and Spain international Victor Valdes has admitted he is enjoying life away from the media spotlight.

In a rare interview on Spanish radio, the 37-year-old talked about tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in March 2014 against Celta Vigo – which effectively ended his career at Barcelona.

“I am very comfortable in solitude, now I have found peace,” Valdes told Deportes Cuatro.

“I have not talked a lot about that day (against Celta)…I remember a crunch, it was a very cold night at the Camp Nou, it was very bad.

“The recovery was very tough, but also because of my stubbornness to be alone, because I wanted to be left alone.

“I really miss the atmosphere in the dressing room, because I was used to seeing my friends every day, we were not just companions, we were more like brothers.

“Now that I work (as a coach for Rayo Majadahonda) in Madrid I have found peace and I cannot ask for more, but I have not lost my passion for football.”
