Cordoba appoint former Valencia star Curro Torres

Cordoba have appointed former Valencia midfielder Curro Torres as their new Coach to replace the outgoing Jose Ramon Sandoval.

Torres spent a decade in Los Che’s first-team squad between 1999 and 2009 whilst also winning five caps for the Spanish national team.

The 41-year-old German-born Coach has previously been at the helm of Valencia’s B team along with Lorca and Croatian side NK Istra 1961.

Cordoba appoint Lugo's Francisco

Cordoba have appointed Francisco Javier Rodriguez Vilchez as Coach following the exit of Jose Ramon Sandoval.

Sandoval, 50, guided the Andalusian side – whose last stint in La Liga was the 2014/15 season – to 32 points from their final 16 league games to beat the drop.

Francisco, a former Almeria player, was Coach at fellow La Liga 123 side Lugo last season having previous experience at Almeria and UCAM Murcia.

He has signed a one-year contract at Los Califas.

Getafe sign forward Sergi Guardiola

Getafe have completed the loan signing of Cordoba striker Sergi Guardiola with an option to buy of €10m, according to reports.

The 27-year-old recently extended his contract at the second tier club until 2022 after hitting 22 goals last season, helping them avoid relegation.

The deal looks set to bring Getafe duo Alvaro Jimenez and Dani Pacheco – both natives of Cordoba – go the other way.

Sandoval departs Cordoba despite survival

Cordoba have confirmed Coach Jose Ramon Sandoval has departed the club despite sparking a remarkable run of form to stave off relegation.

The 50-year-old guided the Andalusian side – whose last stint in La Liga was the 2014/15 season – to 32 points from their final 16 league games to beat the drop.

Sandoval had also recently held the managerial job at Rayo Vallecano in the first half of the 2016/17 season – his second stint at the club.

Ruben Castro set for Cordoba switch

Cordoba are favourites to land Real Betis striker Ruben Castro, who is likely to rescind his contract at the club this summer.

The 36-year-old enjoyed a four-month loan stint at Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng where he scored seven times in 11 appearances, before returning to Spain in November.

“Ruben would offer us a lot but we have to combine love and money to convince him,” Cordoba sporting director Luis Oliver is cited as saying by Marca.

Reyes set for China move

Former Spain international Jose Antonio Reyes is set to join Chinese second division side Xinjiang Tianshan Leopards, according to reports.

The 34-year-old forward joined La Liga 123 outfit Cordoba in January and helped maintain the Andalusian club’s stay in the second tier thanks to a strong finish to the campaign.

The former Sevilla forward, who has won 21 caps for his country, now looks set for a move to the Far East, according to reports throughout the Spanish press.

Segunda: Rayo up, Barca B down!

A dramatic penultimate matchday in the Segunda Division saw Rayo Vallecano clinch promotion to La Liga and Barcelona B drop back into the third tier.

Alex Moreno’s 40th-minute goal earned Rayo a 1-0 win against Lugo on Sunday, which was enough for them to secure a top-two place.

Los Vallecanos were relegated to La Segunda in 2016 and could only finish 12th in their first season back in the division.

Cordoba threatened with relegation

La Liga president Javier Tebas has threatened Cordoba with administration and certain relegation from the second tier, say reports in Spain.

ABC de Sevilla report the Spanish league’s chief as ‘issuing a serious threat’ to the Andalusian club following a ‘surprise audit’, which showed the club were paying out salaries not declared in official accounts.

The report acknowledges that Los Verdiblancos were not specifically named by Tebas in his declarations but ‘it is clear that they are the club identified’.

Sandoval 'optimstic' on Cordoba survival

Cordoba Coach Jose Ramon Sandoval is hoping his side can secure survival in the second tier before their final match of the season against Sporting Gijon.

The Andalusian outfit have won 19 points in Sandoval’s eight matches in charge but remain mired in the relegation zone, while Sporting are hopeful of automatic promotion this campaign.

“I hope there is nothing at stake for our match against Sporting,” Sandoval told Cadena Cope’s Tiempo de Juego show.

Cordoba appoint Jose Ramon Sandoval

La Liga 123 strugglers Cordoba have appointed Jose Ramon Sandoval after the sacking of Jorge Romero, with the club mired in relegation trouble.

Romero, 33, took charge of just ten matches but was dismissed with only two wins and seven defeats in that run of games from the start of December.

Sandoval’s most recent managerial job was at Rayo Vallecano in the first half of the 2016/17 season – his second stint at the club.
