Athletic Bilbao: We can pay €20m for Bayern Munich's Javi Martinez

Athletic Club Bilbao are prepared to pay €20m to re-sign midfielder Javi Martinez from Bayern Munich, says club president Aitor Elizegi.

The 30-year-old joined the German giants from Athletic Club seven years ago and has made over 200 first-team appearances, despite being limited by injury setbacks.

“Athletic can pay €20m for Javi Martinez without any problem,” Elizegi told reporters, as cited by El Mundo Deportivo.

Athletic Bilbao eye Javi Martienz return

Athletic Bilbao sporting director Rafael Alkorta is working on a deal to bring Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez back to the club, report Marca.

The 30-year-old joined the German giants from Athletic Club seven years ago and has made over 200 first-team appearances, despite being limited by injury setbacks.

“Bilbao is a paradise,” Martinez recently told German publication Kicker, as the report cites.

“I still have a lot of friends there and I cannot say that I will not return there one day.”

Martinez: Sevilla as good as Barca, Madrid

Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez believes Sevilla are as good as Real Madrid and Barcelona for tonight’s Champions League quarter final.

The German champions play the first leg of their last eight tie in Andalucia against the side who currently lie seventh in La Liga, but the 29-year-old had a word of warning for his teammates.

“Maybe people think they're not as good as Barcelona or Real Madrid but I think they are,” Martinez told ESPN FC.

Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez has described Atletico Madrid as arguably the toughest side to play against in Europe.

In a repeat of last year's semi-final, Bayern will take on Atletico at the Calderon on Wednesday evening in a highly-anticipated group stage clash and Martinez believes it will be another fascinating encounter.

Martinez tears cruciate ligaments

Spain international Javi Martinez will tomorrow undergo an operation in the United States after it was confirmed he has torn his cruciate ligaments.

The Bayern Munich midfielder-defender was injured during his club’s German Super Cup defeat to Borussia Dortmund and said he feared the worst.

It’s now been confirmed by Bayern that Martinez will go under the knife and while no time frame is set for a recovery, the phrase ‘several months’ has been used to describe the period Martinez faces on the sidelines.
