Messi leaving Barcelona after new boss Koeman told him “privileges are over”

Lionel Messi has decided to leave Barcelona after the club’s new boss Ronald Koeman told him directly: “The privileges are over.”

That is according to a report in Argentinean outlet Ole and as cited by Diario AS, who say that the Dutchman’s words upset Messi to the point where he decided to leave the club.

It is reported that Koeman told Messi in a direct phone call between the two: “I’m going to be inflexible, you have to think about the team.”

It comes as the Association Press report that the Catalan giants contacted them directly on Tuesday to confirm that they have received documentation from the Argentine that he intends to quit the club immediately.

It confirms the multiple reports across Spanish and Argentinean media which claimed that Messi is leaving Barcelona and will attempt to activate a clause in his deal which allows him to break his contract.

Messi has won a record six Ballon d’Or awards during his spell at the Camp Nou, where he has spent the entirety of his professional career and firmly established himself as one of the greatest footballers ever to play the sport.

The 33-year-old has a clause in his deal allowing him to leave at the end of any season, and whilst it was thought that deadline passed in June, Marca say his camp believe that it has been extended in line with the prolonged 2019/20 season.

Messi has scored a scarcely believable 634 goals in 731 official appearances for Barcelona, but his time at the club now appears to be up and he is hopeful of becoming a free agent.

The Blaugrana confirmed the arrival of Koeman on a two-year contract last week following on from the Barcelona news which had centred on the replacement for Quique Setien, who was sacked as Barcelona boss on Monday after just seven months in the role.

  1. If this guy thinks he is a badass coach, why would he get on Messi. The team has gone up because of him. Everything in Barcelona has gone up because of him. That is a bunch of BS.

    1. That’s totally wrong. The right mentality is team first. Not try to under rate his achievements, but Barca was a success team before him and it would still be successful after him. They have always had great players and will continue to have after he is gone. This mentality of entitlement is what has hampered the performances of his teams ( Barca & Argentina).

    2. Keoman is the culprit. He started it all. He could never achieve the fame of Leo in his lifetime and now his jealousy speaks for it. He should know he is dealing with the best footballer of the century. Don’t treat Messi like a ordinary player which Keoman was in his playing days. Before anybody else, Keoman should be out of Barca.

  2. The first thing for his new coach to do is to get him to train his right leg at least half an hour a day..
This way he’s in a rank of a Griezman or Di Maria.

    1. l think these reports are fake..but if everything we are reading is True…well l advise the new coach to relax..who wouldn’t want to have Leo messi in his team here on earth..he needs to slow down..He will be sacked the first season if he is playing..Even at 32 years old, messi is still a deadly player..the best is go out and buy g[d players.Let messi bring you 2 or 3 more compionship before he hangs his boots.I can’t imagine seeing messi in a different jersey..but barca.. Thats where his heart is.Its not easy for a prayer as good as messi to stick to one team…thats ROYALTY right there…he has won barca lots of trophies..Today barca is the best team because of messi…today barca is an envy of many people because of messi..He deserves respect…a salute! I hope all this is resolved amicable and messi stays at barca…sell some of the players but leave Dembele ,fati ..bring back Coutihnio.they are the future of barca if healthy…get Neymar back and few players…and you good to go and cement your stay at barca as a coach.Dont be big headed before you coach the first game..you might turn out to be the waste coach and fired quicker..so back up and relax.you need messi.who doesn’t anyways??

  4. This is a rumor and blown out of context , not provided with any record as proof, if indeed there is please indulge us and correct me if im wrong, if not this article is bollocks, hearsay and gossip.

  5. Who knows what the coach meant by privileged. Where they going to implement a new Game winning strategy which could cut Messi playing time and or did a new power structure take over with superior ideas of their own?

  6. The only benefits of this would be financial, potentially Messi’s fan base would add to City’s global following.
At 33 he is on his “last legs” and the physicality of the Prem would be a major factor in this and his fame would make him a constant target and a major “scalp” for Prem defenders.

  7. It’s a very big mistake to let Messi out that will be affected the club economically. I love Messi he’s a great football player.

  8. If this news is true, this new coach need to really reevaluate what he says and how he coaches this team without Messi in the future. Leo Messi us the most selfless teammate. As a fan, I have watched him only be a team player. If he was selfish, he would and should have left long ago. The successes of this team are due to Messi and a few other stellar players. I can not wait to see Messi be successful solo and as part of a cohesive team and mgmt team.

  9. It’s not the 1950s. With nutrition and diet and exercise he’ll easily be just as good for another 5 years. Plus he’s experienced. People are stupid to think he’s not going to crush the PL
