Eibar run riot at Girona

Girona’s hopes of a Europa League qualification spot suffered a massive blow as they fell to a 4-1 home loss at the hands of Eibar.

Kike Garcia netted a first half double to put the Basque visitors in full control of the tie but Adnay halved the deficit just after the break to give the hosts hope.

Joan Jordan cut off hopes of a comeback as he restored the visiting side’s two-goal advantage before Takashi Inui, who is leaving the club at the end of the season, completing the rout late on.

Eibar postpone Valencia party

Valencia have been made to wait in their confirmation of a Champions League place after being held by Eibar at the Mestalla.

The result ensures that Real Betis – who lie 11 points adrift of Valencia – could still mathematically catch Los Che in the race for fourth, but this appears hugely unlikely.

Marcelino’s side enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and opportunities but despite having 16 attempts on goal, only five troubled Eibar goalkeeper Yoel Rodriguez.

Pedro Leon jumps to Eibar

Pedro Leon has left Getafe and signed for Eibar, agreeing a two-year contract with Los Armeros.

Leon spent six years with El Geta and in a message on his Twitter account spoke of his ‘tremendous pride’ in the club, and his disappointment that he and his now-former teammates ‘failed miserably’ in avoiding relegation last season.

“I have tried to give everything of myself in these colours to make you as proud as I am of this club. I would like to have said goodbye in other circumstances,” Leon’s statement added.

Leon agrees Eibar move?

Getafe captain Pedro Leon has reportedly agreed to join Eibar following Los Azulones’ relegation to La Liga 2.

According to Onda Cero, Leon will make the move imminently after Getafe could no longer bear the brunt of his wages, the winger in turn refusing a pay cut.

Eibar are in need of reinforcements, having recently sold Keko to Malaga and seen the likes of Borja Baston and Aleksandar Pantic return to their parent clubs.

Negredo & Leon top Flores wishlist?

Alvaro Negredo and Pedro Leon reportedly top Quique Sanchez Flores’ wishlist as the new Espanyol boss begins to restructure his squad for next season.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Negredo is surplus to requirements at Valencia, despite being under contract until 2019, and could join Espanyol on a season-long loan for 2016-17, with the option for a permanent deal next summer.

Getafe winger Leon is also high on Flores’ agenda, Onda Cero reports, the pair having worked together at Coliseum Alfonso Perez for a short spell at the beginning of last year.

Leon ‘ready to die’ for Getafe

Pedro Leon says he will “die” with Getafe in his blood after issuing a rallying cry to his struggling teammates ahead of Friday’s match against Eibar in La Liga.

A run of eight defeats in their last nine games has condemed El Geta to freefall, with the side comfortably in midtable at the turn of the year and now in the relegation zone, but the winger is ready to help the team end their slump, starting with the visit of Los Armeros.

“No-one imagined this could happen, not even us,” he told Marca.

Pedro Leon sets out Getafe aims

Pedro Leon’s aims for Getafe this season are to avoid ‘roughing it’ at the bottom of the Primera table.

The winger has been at Coliseum Alfonso Perez for six years now and said he wants this campaign to be like his successful first, not his disastrous last two.

“We’re very excited about this year. We want the fans to support us and hopefully have a good year. I hope to score as many goals as possible and help the team,” AS quotes Leon as saying.

Leon: I’m a Getafe man

Pedro Leon has renewed his contract with Getafe, completing a remarkable turnaround from last year when he wasn’t even registered to play.

Getafe chose to leave Leon out of their squad for the first half of 2014-15 as, had they included the winger, they would have breached their salary cap.

There was legal action that eventually led to Leon’s restoration to the Getafe set-up and, almost 12 months on, he has extended his deal until 2018.

Pedro ‘realistic’ for Copa del Rey

Getafe winger Pedro Leon says the Madrid outfit are remaining ‘realistic’ over their Copa del Rey chances and must make La Liga the priority.

El Geta face a difficult quarter-final first leg clash with Villarreal at El Madrigal on Wednesday and Leon was at pains to point out the extent of the club’s ambitions this season, with just one point separating them from the relegation places.

Contra happy at Getafe stroll

Getafe boss Cosmin Contra said he was happy at his team’s stroll through to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with a 2-1 victory at Eibar.

The Madrid side were already 3-0 up from the first leg at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez and first-half goals from Vigaray and Diego Castro made it an easy night’s work for Contra’s men, Federico Piovaccari getting a consolation for the Basques after the break.
