FC Barcelona hold crisis talks on team bus

Senior players in the FC Barcleona squad held an emergency meeting on the team bus following their Copa del Rey final defeat to Valencia CF this weekend.

According to a report in Diario AS, key players, including captain Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez led the meeting, with frustration running high after the Catalan side failed to secure a domestic double.

Josep Bartomeu: Valverde not to blame for Copa defeat

FC Barcleona Club President Josep Bartomeu has once again moved to back manager Ernesto Valverde.

The 56-year old has spoken out after the Catalan side lost in their Copa del Rey final clash with Valencia CF this weekend, ending their chances of back to back domestic doubles.

However despite the defeat, Bartomeu refused to blame the former Athletic Bilbao coach.

"This defeat was not the fault of the coach.

"We had many chances to win the game, but the ball just would not go in the net.

Valverde: We have not met our end of season expectations

Ernesto Valverde has claimed that his side have failed to meet their end of season objectives, after they lost in the Copa del Rey final.

Defeat to Marcelino's side prevented them from winning a second successive domestic double since Valverde joined the club back in 2017.

FC Barcelona secured their eighth La Liga title in 11 seasons, but they crashed out of Champions League at the semi final stage and failed to live up to their favourites tag against Valencia.

Marcelino: This is an unforgettable night

Valencia CF boss Marcelino was full of praise for his side after they secured their first Copa del Rey title since 2008.

Los Che ended Barcelona's hopes of a second successive domestic double with a 2-1 win over Ernesto Valverde's side at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.

The win is Valencia's first major honour in over a decade and the former Villarreal manager encouraged fans to enjoy their celebrations in Andalusia.

Gerard Pique: Copa del Rey defeat gives bittersweet end to 2018-19 season

FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique could not hide his disappointment after their Copa del Rey final defeat to Valencia CF.

The Catalan side lost 2-1 to Marcelino's side, ending their chances of a back-to-back domestic double, and a record breaking fifth consecutive Copa del Rey title.

The defeat caps a poor end to the season for Ernesto Valverde's side, as they crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Liverpool, and Pique was in reflective mood in his post-match interview.

POST MATCH: Valencia seal first Copa del Rey title since 2008

Valencia secured their first Copa del Rey title since 2008, with a 2-1 win over FC Barcelona at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.

First half goals from Kevin Gameiro and Rodrigo Moreno ended Ernesto Valverde's chances of a second successive domestic double since taking over at the Camp Nou in 2017.

Barcelona started the game slowly, and Valencia almost took the lead after just five minutes, but Gerard Pique made a brilliant goal line clearance from Rodrigo, following an error from Clement Lenglet.

FC Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde makes two changes to his side for the Copa del Rey final against Valencia CF at the Estadio Benito Vilamarin.

Philippe Coutinho and Arthur Melo had only been placed on the standby list for the final due to injury, but they are recalled in place of Arturo Vidal and Malcom from the final game of the La Liga season.

Valencia CF manager Marcelino Toral recalls Ezequiel Garay to his defence in place of Mouctar Diakhaby, with Kevin Gameiro coming in for Santiago Mina in attack.

Ernesto Valverde faces injury headache ahead of Copa del Rey final

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has confirmed that he faces a growing injury list ahead of next weekend's Copa del Rey final against Valencia.

Speaking after La Blaugrana's La Liga final day 2-2 draw at Eibar, Valverde confirmed that defender Nelson Semedo was taken to hospital at half time due to an injury.

"Semedo was take to hospital during the game, but we are hopeful it is only a minor problem and he can return tomorrow.

"We think that Ter Stegen will be fit for the final, after the initial diagnosis was reassessed.

Sergi Roberto: We want to win the Double next week

Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto is determined to end the season with two domestic titles, after the Catalans defended their La Liga title in 2018-19.

Spanish Supercopa, Copa del Rey revamps confirmed

The Spanish FA has confirmed format changes for the Copa del Rey and Spanish Supercopa from next season onwards.

The Copa is expanding to 116 teams (all those from the top two tiers, 32 from the Tercera, four semi-finalists of the Copa Federacion; and 10 of the previously eliminated teams of the highest position from each territorial federation).

The two-legged system will now be scrapped with the only ties over two legs to be the semi-finals, with the competition running from December through to April.
