Sevilla will defend their Europa League crown after beating Juventus to help claim third place in Champions League Group D.
Unai Emery’s side needed Borussia Monchengladbach to lose at Manchester City and they duly did, letting slip a 2-1 lead to go down to a 4-2 reverse.
Los Rojiblancos also had to beat the Serie A champions and they held up their end of the bargain through ex-Juve man Fernando Llorente, who scored a second half header.
Sevilla could have been a goal down by that point after Alvaro Morata missed a sitter in the first half, having also passed up two other presentable chances.
Gianluigi Buffon meanwhile kept Sevilla at bay while Sergio Rico was also called into action at the other end, Juventus needing to win to be sure of topping Group D ahead of City.
They were unable to do so by virtue of Llorente’s first Champions League goal since November 2014 but it was nearly cancelled out by Paulo Dybala, who struck the crossbar.
Coke had a goal ruled out for offside and Kevin Gameiro shot wide, Paul Pogba going close for the Old Lady, Sevilla having to be thankful for Rico’s reactions as he crowded out Morata at the death.
