Real Madrid have had issues with the Santiago Bernabeu since it was redeveloped, and further problems are now being reported.

For almost a year, Real Madrid have been blocked from hosting concerts at the Bernabeu, with a soundproofing issue having been discovered. This has seen an important revenue stream being blocked, although work is being done to ensure that these events can make a return to the iconic stadium as soon as possible.

But now a new issue has been revealed by journalists on COPE and Cadena SER (via Sport). Manolo Lama noted that the stadium was “like a sauna” when its roof was closed during Saturday’s victory over Espanyol, and this was confirmed to have affected the players too, as per Miguel Ruiz.

“I am going to emphasise one detail. It’s very hot at the Santiago Bernabeu, the roof is closed and in the 10th minute of the second half, taking advantage of an issue with Mbappe, the whole team went to the bench to drink water and hydrate.”

Furthermore, Anton Meana of Cadena SER noted that the Bernabeu with its roof closed had a “greenhouse effect”. On top of this, it’s reported that numerous Real Madrid supporters – especially older ones – have complained about the heat inside the stadium during matches, so it will be interesting to see whether anything is done.

Florentino Perez made decision for roof to be closed

According to Sport’s report, the decision for the roof to be closed during matches, which is done to create a bigger atmosphere, was made by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. So, it remains to be seen whether he opts to start having it open, especially during matches that are played during the day when the temperature is much hotter, compared to evening games.
