Spain boss Luis de la Fuente offered a firm response over questions on his use of Barcelona duo Pedri and Dani Olmo.
La Roja wrap up their 2024/25 UEFA Nations League campaign with a clash against Switzerland in Pedri’s home of Tenerife.
De la Fuente’s charges have already a spot in the Nations League quarter finals for March but he wants to sign off on 2024 with a win in Santa Cruz.
Ahead of the game, De la Fuente was asked about his apparent to unwillingness start the Barcelona pair in the same starting XI, with no joint start under his leadership.
Injuries have played a key part in a lack of playing time together, with Olmo offered a greater role at UEFA Euro 2024 afteer Pedri’s injury, but De la Fuente appears to prefer one or the other in his starting XI.
Olmo started last week’s 2-1 win in Denmark, with Pedri coming off the bench, but De la Fuente hinted he is ready to start them together.
“It’s very easy to combine them. I don’t obsess over these issues. In the same way they play can with Fabian Ruiz, Mikel Merino, Mikel Oyarzabal.
“We have good players and so many options that sometimes we have to play with one line up and other times with another. They can play together but also with other teammates. It’s not a debate.”
