Carlo Ancelotti labels Toni Kroos as Real Madrid legend

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti hailed Toni Kroos on his final appearance in the Spanish capital.

Kroos will retire from professional football this summer after a shock decision on his future last week.

Despite appearing set to sign a one year contract extension in Madrid, Kroos has taken a bold step, and will end his career after Euro 2024.

On an emotional night in Madrid, Kroos was heralded by his teammates and the Real Madrid fans, as Los Blancos drew 0-0 with Real Betis.

That game marked his final home game as a Real Madrid player with his last appearance set for the UEFA Champions League final on June 1.

Kroos thanked the club for everything they had done for him in his decade in Spain and Ancelotti is in no doubt over his lasting legacy.

“The Bernabeu gave him the farewell he deserves, it’s been an emotional night. He’s been one of the greatest midfielders, with a lot of quality and a fantastic character”, as per quotes from Marca.

“He’s always had very little ego and played for the team. We’ve been lucky to have him for ten years.”

The final against Borussia Dortmund will wrap up Kroos’ club career, as he aims for a fifth European title in the Spanish capital, and sixth in his career overall.
