“It’s not up to me” – Kylian Mbappe on possibility of delaying arrival at Real Madrid

It’s highly expected that Real Madrid will finally get their hands on Kylian Mbappe this summer. The 24-year-old has already notified Paris Saint-Germain of his intention to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, which would open the door for Los Blancos to swoop in.

It’s been over a month since those reports emerged, but since then, there has been little movement. Personal terms are still being worked on between Mbappe’s camp and Real Madrid, and the player himself has confirmed that there is still no agreement, as per Diario AS.

“I haven’t announced anything because I didn’t have anything to announce. If I haven’t, it’s because I don’t have anything to announce. The day I have something to announce, I’ll say it. I’ve never hidden. I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I don’t have anything juicy to announce.”

An agreement is expected to come soon, and when it does, attention will turn to when Mbappe actually arrived, which has been a topic of conversation in the last few weeks. France want their star man at this summer’s Olympics, which are being held in Paris, but Real Madrid do not intend to allow any of their players to participate at the Games.

Mbappe addressed this situation, and he admitted that he has little say in the outcome.

“I’ve always had the same ambition. I have always said that it is an event that does not depend on me. The final decision is always made by the same person (the club that pays him). I can’t comment. I distance myself from situations. If I didn’t, I would accept and do what I’m told.”

Real Madrid want Mbappe to arrive as soon as possible during the summer, but if he were to play in Paris, the likelihood is that he would miss the start of next season – his first at the club. Furthermore, with playing two tournaments in one summer, it would massively increase his chance of picking up an injury, or affecting his fitness in the longer term.
