“I won’t say it anymore” – Joan Laporta agrees to stop Real Madrid jibes after “regime” comments

Earlier this week, a bitter debate between Barcelona and Real Madrid was started, following comments made by Joan Laporta during his press conference, regarding El Caso Negreira, on Monday.

Laporta referred to Real Madrid as “the club of the regime”, remarks that did not go down well in the Spanish capital. Los Blancos responded on Monday evening, posting a video on Twitter which referenced Barcelona’s connections with the Franco regime back in the early-to-mid 20th century.

The debate has fuelled a bitter spat between the two clubs, which has left a sour taste in the mouth. Laporta’s remarks on Monday started the chaos, and speaking at the Extraordinary La Liga assembly on Wednesday, he promised to not attack Real Madrid again, as per Relevo.

“Do not understand that what I said at the press conference was a demagogic act. I had to say a few things, but I won’t say them anymore. Each one follows a line of defence that I believe is most convenient.”

Laporta’s focus will now be on ensuring that Barcelona solve their financial problems over the next few weeks, with a move for Lionel Messi seemingly at the forefront of his mind.

Yes, isnt it remarkable how mouths close after a sharp and poignant rebuttal?
