Barcelona made aware of deadline for possible UEFA sanctions

This weekend, Barcelona could mathematically secure Champions League football for next season, as long as they at least match Real Betis’ result when they take on Atletico Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou.

However, whether Barcelona are allowed to play in European competition next season remains to be seen. Last month, UEFA announced they were investigating the La Liga leaders in regards to El Caso Negreira, following confirmation that the Prosecutor’s Office were doing the same.

Barcelona have maintained their innocence over any alleged wrongdoing, and earlier this month, Joan Laporta pleaded with UEFA to hold off on handing down any sanctions until the outcome of the Prosecutor’s Office’s case.

However, that may not happen, as Diario AS have reported that Barcelona have been told that any possible sanctions will be handed down by the 12th of June at the very latest, as that is when the final registration for clubs competing next season is completed.

The 19th of May is the date in which clubs are pre-registered, so Barcelona could be made aware by then. El Caso Negreira has certainly complicated matters for UEFA, but irrespectively, Barcelona do not expect to face any punishment.
