Barcelona star to be rested by Spain against Scotland

Barcelona will no doubt be delighted by the news that one of their key players will return from international duty with more than a week of rest. The Blaugrana have been hurt by the international break several times this season, and once again they are waiting nervously to work out the consequences.

In October Barcelona struggled after Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde returned from international duty injured, while this break has seen Andreas Christensen go down with a muscle issue.

However as Spain take on Scotland on Tuesday night, Sport say that left-back Alejandro Balde will not be part of the line-up. He will be replaced by Valencia captain Jose Gaya, and with only 23 spots for the 25-man matchday squad available, Balde will drop off the bench too. Nacho Fernandez will fill in should Gaya have any issues.

With El Clasico looming next week, Barcelona and Real Madrid will be desperate to get their players back without any damage done. Already Barcelona have injury issues with Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Ousmane Dembele and Christensen.
