Bruno Fernandes passed fit to face Atletico Madrid

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has confirmed he is confident Bruno Fernandes will be fit to face Atletico Madrid in midweek.

The Portuguese international missed United’s 3-2 Premier League win over Tottenham as Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 807th career goal with a hat trick at Old Trafford.

However, despite Rangnick confirming Fernandes missed the game through illness, the German coach stated it was not connected to a reported false positive Covid-19 test for David de Gea.

“Bruno was ill today, unfortunately”, Rangnick told an interview with MUTV, as reported via the Daily Mirror.

“He couldn’t train yesterday and was not available for the game. Hopefully, he will be back for Tuesday but, today, he missed out.”

Fernandes played a crucial role in United’s fightback in their 1-1 first leg draw away at Atletico last month and Rangnick will recall him to the starting XI, if he proves his fitness in the coming days.

Los Rojiblancos geared up for their last 16 second leg trip to Manchester with a 2-1 La Liga win over Cadiz in Friday night action, as Diego Simeone’s side aim to edge out United on home soil.
