Inter step up Pezzella chase?

Inter took advantage of their weekend friendly with Real Betis to open negotiations for Argentine defender German Pezzella, say reports.

The 26-year-old has an Italian passport and the Milanese giants believe his signature is attainable and would act as a direct replacement for Jeison Murillo, seemingly bound for Valencia.

Inter defeated Betis 1-0 on Saturday and Tuttosport claim the two clubs discussed a possible deal for the player.

However, the defender signed a new deal at Estadio Benito Villamarin in May and Betis have no desire to sell him, having rejected an €8m offer from HSV earlier this summer.

The former River Plate defender has featured 66 times for the Seville-based club since joining from the Argentine giants two seasons ago as he has become a leading member of the club’s defence under several managers.

Pezzella reportedly has a €17m release clause with Los Verdiblancos although it is unlikely the Serie A giants will offer that sum.
