Real Betis have confirmed “they might” sign David Lopez and that Rafael van der Vaart is on the verge of joining Midtjylland.
Betis sporting director Miguel Torrecilla was speaking at Roman Zozulya’s presentation on Monday, where he was asked about the progress of deals for Napoli midfielder Lopez and Dutch veteran Van der Vaart, plus Paris Saint-Germain’s Benjamin Stambouli.
“The market is taking us to a place where the timeframes aren’t easy, but we want one of the three options signed soon. David Lopez is an option who might or might not arrive,” he noted.
“We’re also looking for a versatile centre-back, regardless of who leaves.
“One of the signings will be made before the League starts, while there’s no hurry with the other.
“[Van der Vaart] is in Denmark with our permission, and only the fringes of the deal [need to be settled].
“It’s an agreement between three parties, and all three parties have to confirm their end of the deal. At the moment, there’s some in agreement and some that aren’t.
“[On Stambouli], I won’t give any more names now that we’ve confirmed the name of David Lopez.
“I don’t want to hurt any negotiations. If I say two names of the three…”
