‘United DID make Neymar bid’

Neymar’s father has corroborated his son’s claim that Barcelona rejected a bid from Manchester United for his services in the summer.

Reports at the tail of the transfer window in August claimed the Red Devils were in for the Brazilian, as opposed to his former teammate Pedro Rodriguez, with a deal potentially worth €300m lined up, but Neymar Sr insists neither he, the player nor La Blaugrana were tempted.

“Barca received an offer from United, but the club said they didn’t want to sell him,” he told Fox.

“They then asked if we were interested [in negotiating with United], and as we weren’t [interested], that was that.

“[Neymar] has three years left on his contract and the offer [from United] is in the past.

“[Lionel] Messi’s above Neymar, he’s simply too good.

“He’s an inspiration [for Neymar] and a great teammate on and off the pitch.”
