Lionel Messi’s father says his son’s remarks hinting at the possibility of him leaving Barcelona have been taken the wrong way.
The Barca star claimed this week that he wanted to stay with the club for the rest of his career, although he refused to rule anything out in the future.
However, the player’s father Jorge, who also acts as his agent, downplayed the comments.
“Right now I can say there is nothing whatsoever in it. Our plan is to stay here but since people read between the lines, they end up going overboard,” Messi Snr told reporters.
“My son is happy at Barca but obviously if the club one day turns around and says ‘we have received an offer and want to sell you’ then we’d have to look into it.
“At the moment, however, we are not even thinking about that,” he added.
