Lionel Messi has reiterated he intends to stay at Barcelona for the rest of his career, although he refused to rule anything out.
“There’s a lot of movement in football and sometimes things don’t go to plan,” he told reporters ahead of Argentina’s friendly with Portugal at Old Trafford.
“Right now I’m taking things day by day and trying my best to put together a good season. I want to help Barca win all the titles we want to win, that we are trying to win, and that’s about it.
“Then we’ll see. If it was up to me I’d stay at Barca until I retire, but sometimes you don’t get everything you want, especially in the world of football where so much happens and there are so many changes.”
Messi also commented on the way things are shaping up for the Catalans this season.
“This is a huge club and when you lose two games then there are immediate problems and criticism from everywhere.
“But we’ve got a new Coach, with new ideas, and things take time. We’ve got enough quality players to do well this year and I’m relaxed about it.
“This is only the start. There’s a long road ahead of us in La Liga and the Champions League so I’m not overly concerned,” concluded Messi.
