‘Chelsea vs. Atletico isn’t football’

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has dismissed the Champions League semi-final between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.

He has also predicted that Real Madrid will go on to win the tournament.

Robben was part of the Bayern team that lost 4-0 at home to Madrid in the second-leg of their semi-final, the holders going down to a 5-0 aggregate defeat.

Chelsea and Atletico meet at Stamford Bridge tonight to decide who will play Madrid in Lisbon on May 24 but Robben has said he has no interest in the match because he expects the standard of play to be so low.

“I don’t really care. I watched the 90 minutes last week and I couldn’t watch it,” the former Chelsea and Madrid winger told Sky Sports.

“The match had nothing to do with football.

“The two managers, I respect them and everybody has their own way, but I think Real Madrid will win the Champions League and I wish them all the best.”

Robben added in an interview with Eurosport that while Madrid were better than Bayern on the night, Bayern shouldn’t discard the philosophy of Pep Guardiola because of one bad result.

“I think we can't throw everything away just because of that defeat,” the Netherlands international said.

“I mean, okay it's 0-4, we were playing away, in the Champions League, it just can't be so negative, there are a few positive things don't you think?

“We won the Bundesliga with an incredible number of records, we are in the German Cup final, we are in the Champions League semi-final for the fourth time in five years, three times in final in five years.

“Today, we played against a better Real than us – good for them.”
