Robben: Bayern as hungry as Madrid

Arjen Robben has said Bayern Munich’s motivation to retain the Champions League is as great as Real Madrid’s to claim La Decima.

The sides meet on Tuesday in the second-leg of the semi-final and Madrid hold a 1-0 lead from the first encounter.

Robben has told a Press conference that he remembers how much the 10th European Cup means to Madrid from his time at Santiago Bernabeu.

But Sport reports Robben as insisting that the opportunity to make history is motivating Bayern just as much.

“I was in Madrid and I know the obsession with La Decima. I know how huge it is for them but I don’t think they have more hunger than us,” the winger said.

“We want to be the first team to win the Champions League for two consecutive years. Madrid are still waiting.”

Robben added that he harbours no ill-feeling toward the club from his Madrid career.

“I don’t have a bone to pick with Madrid. They come here with spirit and confidence and they’re having a great season,” the Netherlands international continued.

“But they know they won’t have it easy here. We promise to Madrid that we won’t give anything away. They know they don’t have it done.”
