Simao bound for Espanyol

Simao Sabrosa is set for a return to Spain and is expected to sign for Espanyol over the weekend.

The Besiktas winger had been speaking with the Catalans earlier this week, when it appeared any chance of a deal had fallen through.

However, it appears any problems have been resolved and an Espanyol spokesperson told AS that the Portuguese international should soon be putting pen to paper.

“There should be no problem. He will be a great addition to the club but we must wait so that everything goes as planned.”

Simao, 32, has had his contract with the Turkish club paid up, with the player receiving around €700,000 after a meeting between Ahmet Bulut [Simao’s agent Jorge Mendes’ representative in Turkey] and the Istanbul club.

The former Sporting, Barcelona and Benfica man joined Besiktas in December 2010 from Atletico Madrid for €2m but has never really settled in the Super Lig, despite making 46 appearances with eight goals.

He is due to arrive in Barcelona on Friday when he will undergo a medical before signing a one-year deal with Los Periquitos.
