Atletico Madrid’s Memphis Depay responds to ball girl tweet at tennis open – ‘Let a single man shoot his shot’

Atletico Madrid forward Memphis Depay has responded to comments about a tweet he posted regarding a ball girl at the Madrid Tennis Open, which he attended last week.

The Dutch footballer, who is currently injured, was one of a number of celebrities and footballers spotted in the VIP section at La Caja Magica, including Luka Modric, Queen Letizia, Koke Resurreccion, Vinicius Junior and Marcos Llorente.

During his trip, he tweeted put that ‘someone distracted me from the game… to be honest. Someone send me her IGGGG… [Instagram]. Let’s have dinner on the moon.’

This was referenced by football analyst Zach Lowy, who described it as ‘not a great day’ for Memphis, also referencing a potential exit for the Dutchman this summer from Atletico Madrid.

Memphis responded with the following:

“My day was fabulous zachi.
Watched the final and got her number in my phone too.
That so called ball girl is real a model and is in her 20’s..
damn let a single men shoot he’s shot 🏀 smh 🤦🏽‍♂️
y’all disgusted me Fr Fr.
Go factcheck your shit before you spreading these narratives… You give weak personality vibes my guy.
We good on
@FabrizioRomano

Find something else..
As far as my football future, I’m not concerned.. we in the lab! 🧪”

Memphis appears to be hinting that he and his agents are working on his future, by implying that ‘he is in the lab’. The 30-year-old has a year left on his deal, but has been heavily linked with an exit this summer, especially after Diego Simeone appeared to question his motivation last week.

Earlier this year, Memphis controversially expressed support for convicted rapist Dani Alves, and former Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy, who was acquitted of multiple counts of sexual assault and rape. He also backed friend Quincy Promes, who was recently arrested in Dubai on several counts of drug trafficking.
