Diego Simeone claims Antoine Griezmann is bearing the ‘fruits’ of staying at Atletico Madrid after two more goals against Club Brugge on Wednesday.
“He was the best player in the world last season,” the Coach said after his side’s 3-1 Champions League win.
“He won the World Cup and Europa League, he finished second in a League with Barca and Madrid and he’s started this season very well, winning a Super Cup.
“He’s where he wants to be, he chose Atleti and these are the fruits of his decision. He’s enjoying an important spell in his career.
“We knew of their demands before the game. They’re a complicated team to face, with real physical strength. They scored a great goal, but we found calmness in the second half.
“We switched to a 4-3-2-1 and then changed again by bringing on Correa. We thought we could push ourselves further forward. We can show it in other matches like against Betis.
“Gimenez came off with some discomfort, Costa too. After the game the doctors will inform us about their fitness.
“I don’t see Club Brugge out of the reckoning, plus Monaco will try to recover... Now we ‘ll play Dortmund, which will be a difficult game.”
