Official: Emery replaces Michel

Sevilla have confirmed that Michel Gonzalez has been removed as Coach and Unai Emery has been hired as his replacement.

The news had been expected during the course of Monday and was confirmed via a brief statement on the club’s official website in the evening.

“Unai Emery is now the new Coach of Sevilla, for the remainder of the season and for one more season (June 30, 2014) to replace Jose Miguel Gonzalez, Michel, who today has been dismissed due to a poor run of results with the Sevilla first team,” read the posting.

“The executive committee of the club, after being delegated the responsibility, agreed this afternoon to cease with Michel and negotiate with Emery, which has come to fruition.

“The executive committee is made up of the President, Jose Maria del Nido, Vice-President Jose Castro, director generals Manuel Vizcaino and Ramon Rodriguez, Monchi, and advisor Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco.”

Emery makes a quick return to Spanish football, after an unsuccessful brief spell in charge of Russian outfit Spartak Moscow came to an end in November.

The tactician, who left Valencia after four years in the summer, will take training on Tuesday morning before being presented to the media.
