Barcelona satisfied by player’s international snub following recent injury scare

Earlier this week, Spain announced that Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi had been called up to Luis de la Fuente’s squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Denmark and Switzerland. The 17-year-old was originally left out after suffering a facial injury during a recent Champions League match against Crvena Zvedza, but after Pau Torres was forced to pull out, he was called upon.

However, Cubarsi was not included in Spain’s matchday squad to face Denmark on Friday in the first of their two upcoming fixtures, as de la Fuente opted not to take any risks with him. As per MD, this is a decision that has been greatly welcome by Barcelona.

After Cubarsi was called up, Barcelona officials had spoken to those at the Spanish Football Federation to warn them about the risks of playing the teenager, whom they thought would be considered a starter during the ongoing international break.

Cubarsi has been feeling unwell this week, which is the reason that he will not be risked in Copenhagen. However, he is likely to be involved when Spain host Switzerland on Monday evening.
