After back-to-back victories against Young Boys and Bayern Munich, Barcelona are in a good place to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League. The Catalans can take one step closer with another win on Wednesday, as they prepare to take on Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade.
Ahead of MD4 in the league phase, Barcelona sat in 10th place – not that Hansi Flick would know. He said that as much during his pre-match press conference (via MD), while also hammering home the point that his side are nowhere near confirmed as being into the knockout stages.
“Things can change a lot. The important thing is to win games, and after the game against Bayern, it changed a lot. I don’t even know what position we are in. We’ve just started, and when we finish, we hope to be in the top eight. This is the goal and I think we can achieve it.”
Flick also assessed his Barcelona side’s chances of winning the competition itself – it comes after many pundits have labelled the La Liga leaders as the best team in Europe so far this season
“You have to do a lot of work to win the Champions League. There are very good teams that have the same objective as us. In the end, it’s about working hard and doing our talking on the pitch.”
