Antoine Griezmann calls for calm after superb Champions League debut

Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann had a clear message following their UEFA Champions League opener.

Los Rojiblancos hosted RB Leipzig on the back of an unbeaten start to their La Liga campaign after five games played.

That confidence was evident against the Bundesliga side but it took an inspired Griezmann performance to seal a late 2-1 win.

The French international equalised from Benjamin Sesko’s breakthrough goal before laying on an added time assist for Jose Maria Gimenez.

The expanded format of this season’s Champions League will place different demands on teams and Griezmann called on his teammates to keep their run going.

“We knew another goal could us cost the game. We had to stay calm to go on and win the match”, as per reports from Marca.

“All games are difficult, no matter who the opponent is. We have to work hard and keep going like this.”

Up next for Atletico Madrid is a return to La Liga action on September 22 as Griezmann and Co. face a short trip across the capital to take on Rayo Vallecano.

They only have one more European game before the October international break with an away clash at Benfica on October 2.
