Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for Joao Felix, according to multiple sources, and it’s going to be a bittersweet deal for Los Rojiblancos.
The 24-year-old arrived at the club as their record signing in 2019, five years ago, as their record signing from Benfica, costing them €127m. Los Colchoneros will get less than half of that back when he completes his move to Chelsea, where he will sign a six-year deal with an option for a seventh. He will reduce his salary to help the deal through too.
As per Diario AS, the deal will cost Chelsea €50m, with a further €10m in variables, making the total possible fee around €60m. Felix is expected to travel to London on Tuesday to undergo a medical and complete the move. Meanwhile Conor Gallagher will travel to Madrid on Tuesday too, for a second time. He will complete a €42m move in the other direction.
Atletico will likely have ammortised at least half of his original transfer fee, meaning at a minimum, Felix will cease to be a drain on their finances. In addition, after an underwhelming year at Barcelona, making at least €50m on a forward that has never scored more than eight La Liga goals in a season could be considered good negotiating.
