David de Gea appears to be edging ever closer to making his return to football, 13 months after his Manchester United contract expired. The 33-year-old recently missed out on a move to Genoa, but he could now join another Serie A side instead: Fiorentina.
Discussions between de Gea and Fiorentina initially fell through due to the 33-year-old’s wage demands, but this weeks, new talks were held – and they are seemingly more fruitful. According to Corriere dello Sport (via Diario AS), de Gea is prioritising a move to Florence, where he would be first-choice goalkeeper.
De Gea is reportedly asking for a one-year contract worth €2m, with an additional €1m in bonuses. An option to extend the agreement by an additional 12 months would also be included.
It’s been a tough 12/13 months for de Gea, having been out in the wilderness. A return to football now looks increasingly likely, and playing for Fiorentina would be a very good move – it could also allow him to re-enter the discussion for a return to the Spanish national team.
