Atletico Madrid intend to finalise Joao Felix departure within 20 days

With Portugal’s exit from Euro 2024 confirmed on Friday, there could now be significant movement in the future of Joao Felix. The 24-year-old will almost certainly be on the move again this summer, and he has been strongly linked with both Barcelona – where he was last season – and former club Benfica.

What’s certain is that Felix will not be in Diego Simeone’s squad for next season. Atletico Madrid do not count on him, especially after his antics while playing against the club for Barcelona during the 2023-24 campaign.

Because there’s no agreement with another club at this stage, Felix is set to return to Atleti for pre-season on the 27th of July. Marca say that Los Colchoneros’ plan is to finalise Felix’s departure before this date, so that he does not return at all.

It’s been a disastrous couple of years for Felix, and despite strong interest from Barcelona in re-signing him, it’s far from certain that he will end back up in Catalonia. Atletico Madrid want to secure a good deal, but their chances of doing so are slim, especially given the deadline that they’ve set themselves.
