Matteo Moretto Transfer Column: Paulo Dybala, La Liga goalkeeping carrousel, Ronald Araujo and Sergi Roberto

Matteo Moretto gives Football España exclusive information on the latest deals dominating the papers in Spain, as revealed in Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing.

Paulo Dybala has Premier League interest but Roma will fight for him

Following Paulo Dybala’s comments, it’s natural that there are plenty of links to other teams, but I don’t have confirmation that any clubs have made a firm move for him. I am aware that various Premier League clubs, which cannot be named right now, are paying close attention to what happens with him, and it’s worth remembering that he has a release clause of just €12m for clubs outside of Serie A.

What we do know is that Roma want to keep him. They will speak to him, and they want him to stay, as they feel he is a key piece for Daniele de Rossi’s team. If a team comes in and pays the clause, there’s nothing they can do, but the priority for Roma is to return to the Champions League with Dybala leading the way. There have been links to Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, but no confirmation has come to me that they are moving for him.

Hansi Flick impact on Barcelona squad planning with Deco

Obviously, the work in the transfer market for Barcelona will be carried out based on a conversation between Hansi Flick and Deco when it comes to potential exits or additions. Clearly, some dynamics are subject to change with the change of manager, as of today, they are trying to keep things from getting out since the appointment of Flick.

He’s just arrived, and they don’t want things to be leaked to the media, and maybe at times that did happen before. Some issues could be impacted by the arrival of Flick, for example that of Sergi Roberto. Now, the future of Sergi Roberto is up in the air, and some situations could change. The Sporting Commission will work together with Flick, but Deco will have a big role.

Ronald Araujo still speaking to Barcelona about future

As things stand, there is still no agreement, but they are still discussing a new deal. Time is not necessarily working in Barcelona’s favour. I think if a big financial offer comes in, then they might think about it, but that’s not happened yet.

Araujo is relaxed about the situation, he is waiting to see how it plays out, and he has to wait and see what the plan and the project is at Barcelona. He will also speak with Flick.

Bayern Munich and Manchester United are the two teams we’ve noted that are interested, but things weren’t advanced with either of them. We have to wait and see where Thomas Tuchel ends up, because he is one of the managers that likes Araujo the most, and we’ll see if a Premier League club goes after him.

Asking price for Chelsea goalkeeper amid competition from Wolves and Newcastle

Both Giorgi Mamardashvili and Filip Jorgensen have been linked with Newcastle United because they are looking for a goalkeeper. Then Atletico Madrid have also been linked with Mamardashvili, because if they find a solution for Jan Oblak, then they will go for a goalkeeper too. The Georgian is an option, he is well-liked by Atletico above all by Diego Simeone.

With Jorgensen, he has more interest coming from the Premier League. Wolves and Newcastle United have asked about him, and some of the big hitters too, not just Chelsea. He has a release clause of €40m, and my understanding is that if an offer of €30-35m comes in for Jorgensen, then there is a decent chance he leaves the club.

With Oblak, there have been lots of reports about him leaving or not leaving, but there is no club speaking to Atletico about him currently. If a solution were to arise, which suits Oblak and suits Atletico, then they will consider it. Oblak is, naturally due to his age and quality, one of the highest earners, and has a long contract – Atleti would demand a reasonable fee too.
