Sevilla take first step towards securing Sergio Ramos for another season

Having completed a sensational U-turn to tie down Jesus Navas for the remainder of his playing career, Sevilla are now taking steps towards securing the future of another veteran defender, that being Sergio Ramos.

In recent weeks, it has been reported that Ramos is expected to depart Los Nervionenses for the second time in his career. A contract offer is not on the table, and numerous clubs in the United States and Saudi Arabia are said to be circling.

However, Ramos now looks closer to extending his stay at Sevilla, with MD reporting that president Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco and sporting director Victor Orta met with the 38-year-old’s agent on Wednesday. During his face-to-face, del Nido Carrasco and Orta confirmed their desire to see Ramos sign a contract extension.

Ramos has been one of Sevilla’s best performers this season, and age has certainly not caught up to him yet. It would be a no-brainer to keep him for at least another 12 months, and work is now being done towards this becoming a reality.
