Barcelona pivot target would welcome move this summer

The top target for Sporting Director Deco this summer is to bring Barcelona a quality option for the pivot role, but it will not be easy, given the financial constraints hampering the Catalan side. After Everton midfielder Amadou Onana emerged as Deco’s preference for the role, Khephren Thuram has been named as a second target.

Wanted by various Premier League sides and Milan, Thuram is out of contract with Nice in 2025, and with no sign of a new deal yet, he could be available at a cut-price fee. On Friday it was reported that Barcelona were following the 23-year-old, and Matteo Moretto has revealed to Football España that Thuram has recently changed agents to be represented by Sport Cover, who are also in charge of Inter striker and brother Marcus Thuram’s affairs. The recently capped France international is thought to be open a move outside of Ligue 1 this summer, which no doubt will be received warmly in Barcelona.

Thuram will have no trouble gaining an inside view of the club, with his father Lilian Thuram having played for the Blaugrana for two years. However if he were to join Barcelona, it seems unlikely to be as a single anchor in the middle of the pitch – usually he has operated further forward or in a pair in midfield.
