It was a good day to be a teenage Barcelona centre-back on Friday. Pau Cubarsi, aged just 17, made his Spain debut in the latter stages of their 1-0 friendly defeat to Colombia in London, while a little under 300km away in Amiens, Mikayil Faye was also making his senior debut for Senegal.
Faye’s debut was much more successful that Cubarsi’s, as it turned out. The 19-year-old, who has been a standout for Barca Atletic since joining the club last summer, started against Gabon, and he would go on to make the occasion even more memorable by scoring a piledriving effort from 35 yards out just before half time.

Faye has gone from strength to strength over the last few months, and this is the next great moment of his career so far. A call-up to the Barcelona first team does not seem too far away, although recently, there have been suggestions that he could leave in the summer, whether that be on loan or permanently.
