Barcelona fire Champions League message with dominant Atletico Madrid win

Barcelona have shown their willingness to fight on this season with superb 3-0 La Liga win at rivals Atletico Madrid.

The Catalans are almost certain to miss out in their league title defence in the coming weeks with Real Madrid zoning in on the top flight crown.

At the end of the weekend, Barcelona move back up into second place in the table, with Atletico Madrid’s own top four challenge uncertain.

Joao Felix continued to feel the wrath of the Atletico Madrid faithful as he opened the scoring in the Spanish capital.

The Portugal international has scored in both appearances against his parent club this season and Robert Lewandowski doubled the visitors advantage after the restart.

With Barcelona in the ascendency, Fermin Lopez capped off a strong night for the away side, as headed home to make it 3-0 late on before Nahuel Molina was sent off in added time.

A slip from Atletico Madrid means they go into the international break outside of the Champions League spots with nine league games still to play this season.

  1. No gavi, pedri,de jong, balde, torres, christensen ,cancelo and to win 3-0 away from home against a top team like atletico who barely ever lose there in their own stadium never mind concede three goals statement win forca barca

    1. I was hoping we’d get that second goal early after Simeone switched to a more attacking side to start the second half. The goal changed the match completely because Athleti then had to press less aggressively, opening up the pitch and allowing Barca to have more possession.

Putting more players forward also made Athleti more vulnerable to the counter and Barca were able to pressure them that way as well. All in all, one of the best performances of the season so far.
