Barcelona and Atletico Madrid set for transfer tug-of-war over Manchester United forward – report

Mason Greenwood’s future is likely to be one to watch this summer, given that Manchester United intend to sell him. The 22-year-old, who was previously charged with attempted rape, sexual assault, coercion and domestic violence, in the UK in 2022, before those charges were dropped after key witness stepped back from the case, is no longer wanted at the Premier League giants.

Greenwood has impressed during his loan spell at Getafe this season, and he could end up remaining in La Liga going forward, albeit not with Los Azulones. He has been regularly linked with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in recent months, and according to Sport1 (via MD), both clubs are interested in doing a deal with Man United in the summer.

Man United are hoping to earn close to €40m for Greenwood, although the likelihood is that neither Barcelona nor Atleti would be able to pay this much unless a significant sale occurs, given that both clubs are struggling with financial problems.

It remains to be seen whether Greenwood is targeted by either Barcelona or Atletico Madrid in the summer. While these reports continue to linger, it’s probably more likely that he does not sign on at either side.
