Real Madrid star likely to leave next summer after becoming unhappy with lack of opportunities

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has been putting out fires all season regarding playing time and positions, and according to the latest in the capital, he has another, if more minor blaze to deal with.

Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo Goes have complained publicly about being used in positions they are not comfortable with, while Luka Modric has been public about his discontent with his lack of minutes, although Ancelotti appears to have dealt with these issues sufficiently so far.

Now Relevo say that back-up goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is unhappy with his role on the bench. The Ukrainian international started Real Madrid’s opening two games of the season after Thibaut Courtois injured his anterior cruciate ligament, before Kepa Arrizabalaga arrived on loan from Chelsea.

Lunin hopes to appear in the Copa del Rey, but is growing increasingly frustrated at his lack of opportunities. Courtois is set to return next season, while Kepa is making a case for doing so too. He feels frustrated that his six-year spell at the club could come to an end without even having the chance to compete for the position.

With his contract up at the end of the season, there has been no talk of a renewal so far, and there is a good chance he will leave next summer.

Recently Celtic have been linked with Lunin, and the reality is that it is no surprise that Lunin has been starved of chances. Ancelotti has never shown a great deal of faith in Lunin, and has looked to replace him before as well – equally, dropping Courtois or even Kepa for Lunin, who is as of yet unproven at the top level, would be a major surprise for any manager. The natural course for a young goalkeeper at a big club is to seek minutes elsewhere.
