Valencia cruise past Cadiz into European race with captain fantastic

Valencia 2-0 Cadiz

Valencia got back to winning ways on Monday night against Cadiz at Mestalla, with a 2-0 victory over the Yellow Submarine.

Less than five minutes in, captain Jose Gaya escaped the attention of the defence and lifted the ball over Conan Ledesma for the opener, doing so on his return from injury.

From that point the game was slanted in their favour, and Cadiz were unable to even the playing field. Just after 20 minutes, on loan Real Sociedad midfielder Robert Navarro dived into a challenge with his studs, meaning Sergio Gonzalez’s side were down to ten men.

And by the 25th minute, Hugo Duro tapped in from close range to secure the points for Los Che early on. Cadiz competed well in the second half, and came close to scoring on multiple occasions, but the result was never in doubt.

Ruben Baraja’s side ended a four-game winless run, and now find themselves just three points off Athletic Club in 6th. Meanwhile Cadiz slip to 16th, and are now on their own winless run of six games in a row, including four defeats, albeit all of their opponents are in eighth (Valencia) or higher.
