Barcelona receive much-needed financial windfall from UEFA

Barcelona’s financial predicament is well documented, and has affected the club’s ability to do business over the last couple of years.

This summer will be no different, with transfer fees unlikely to be forked out due to FFP constraints. However, club officials are working to rectify the situation, and small trickles of money have been coming in of late.

After receiving €500k from Lecce as part of their loan agreement for Samuel Umtiti, Barcelona will net more funds due to the successes of their women’s side.

Barcelona Femeni have reached the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League for a second successive year, and will hope to go one further than last season, where they lost to Lyon in the final.

Last season, Barcelona earned €1.26m in prize money from UEFA, and so far this campaign, they have accumulated €1.01m, but that could rise to €1.36m if they win the competition, as per MD.

Ticket sales for the home matches in the Champions League has also generated extra income, and Barcelona officials will hope for a big turnout when Femeni take on Chelsea in the home leg of their semi-final tie.

Every little helps for Barcelona at the moment, as they desperate look to solve their financial problems, or at least ease them, before the start of next season.
