Kylian Mbappe disassociates himself from Paris Saint-Germain after marketing campaign for 2023/24

Kylian Mbappe has raised eyebrows in Paris, after he disassociated himself from a marketing campaign aimed at attracting season-ticket sales for next season.

Paris Saint-Germain had released a campaign for next year’s season ticket-holders, asking fans to renew their tickets for the 2023-24 season. The campaign featured Mbappe heavily.

Following the release of that campaign, Mbappe put out a statement on the matter on his Instagram.

“I have just seen the club’s resubscription campaign for the 2023-2024 season. At no time was I informed of the content of it with my representative. It seemed like when I did a basic interview at a club marketing day. I disagree with this posted video. That’s why I fight for individual image rights. PSG is a great club and a great family, but it’s definitely not Kylian Saint-Germain,” remarked the prodigious striker.

There could be a number of reasons for his desire to do so. Mbappe requested in his last contract that he have control over his image rights in their entirety, and thus this seems the most likely explanation.

Equally it could well be a nod to growing uncertainty on his future. Mbappe is reportedly not happy with some of the goings on at PSG, with Real Madrid keeping tabs on the situation. Mbappe’s image rights were thought to be a sticking point in negotiations with Real Madrid last summer, while he has also clashed with the French Football Federation over the matter too.
