Ronaldo Nazario key in Erling Haaland’s €227m sponsorship deal

Norway and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has put pen to paper on one of the largest sponsorship deals in football history.

The giant forward has signed on with Nike for the next 10 years, in a deal which could be the largest in football history, according to Marca.

The deal will earn Haaland €227m over its course, after spending the last 14 months without a sponsor. Haaland was sponsored by Nike from the age of 14 until January of 2022, but spent the last year wearing an assortment of Nike, Adidas and Puma boots.

Seemingly a large part of the reason for his decision to move forward with Nike was inspired by Real Valladolid owner and Brazilian icon Ronaldo Nazario. The ‘original’ Ronaldo was his idol growing up, and Haaland has decided to follow in his footsteps.

Haaland, who is a long-term target of Real Madrid and had an offer from themn last season, has already made a major impact on the Premier League. His 42 goals in 37 games are already a record for City.
