Real Madrid looking to the Premier League to solve right back issues this summer

Dani Carvajal’s poor individual season continues on Tuesday evening, as the Real Madrid defender had a tough 45 minutes during Spain’s defeat to Scotland in Glasgow.

Carvajal replaced Pedro Porro, whose slip allowed Scotland to open the scoring, at half time, although he didn’t fair much better than his international teammate. He was beaten easily by Kieran Tierney in the build-up to the hosts’ second of the evening.

Carvajal hasn’t faired much better for Real Madrid this season, which has led to question marks over his ability to continue as first choice right back.

It appears that Real Madrid are taking steps to sign a replacement, with Diario AS reporting that Chelsea’s Reece James is being lined up for a possible move this summer. The Premier League need to sell in order to comply with Financial Fair Play, which could play into Real Madrid’s hands.

James is a key player at Chelsea, so they are unlikely to be willing to sell him this summer, so it will prove complicated for Real Madrid to sign him. His injury concerns could also be a worry, especially as he has missed 18 matches so far this season because of various knocks, as per CaughtOffside.

The English international is expected to face off against Real Madrid next month, when the two teams compete in the Champions League quarter-final tie.
