Barcelona forward expected to return for El Clasico after injury scare

Barcelona will aim to make it eight La Liga victories in a row on Sunday when they travel to face Almeria. Xavi Hernandez’s side sit eight points clear at the top of the table, although it could be five if Real Madrid defeat city rivals Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Barca will make the trip to Andalusia without Ansu Fati, after they announced the 20-year-old has picked up a knee injury in training for Sunday’s fixture.

However, Fati is expected to return for the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Madrid on Thursday, according to Sport. He is being left in Catalonia this weekend as a precaution, but he should be fully healed by the time that Barcelona squad make the trip to the Spanish capital.

Fati is unlikely to start, despite the injuries to Pedri and Ousmane Dembele, having flattered to deceive for much of this season for Barcelona. Xavi will hope that the young forward can recapture his previous form for the remainder of the season.
