Jan Oblak and Geoffrey Kondogbia agree on key message after Atletico Madrid’s defeat to Man City

Atletico Madrid stars Jan Oblak and Geoffrey Kondogbia are in agreement over their side’s defeat to Manchester City.

Los Rojiblancos came away from the Etihad Stadium with a defeat following their Champions League quarter final first leg clash with City.

Diego Simeone‘s men kept things tight, conceding only two shots on target, but one of those proved to be the winner on the night.

A superb piece of play from Phil Foden put Kevin De Bruyne through on goal, and the Belgian slotted home excellently.

Atleti now go into the second leg, at the Wanda Metropolitano next week, needing to score at least once.

But given they are undoubtedly the underdogs in this tie, a 1-0 away defeat is far from a disaster.

And that was the sentiment echoed by goalkeeper Oblak, who told Movistar: “We have come to take a good result. We have lost, but at 1-0, the tie is alive.

“We play at home with live result and I think everything is possible.”

Midfield star Kondogbia agreed, adding: “We have had a good game, in respect to the coach’s plan.

“Unfortunately, we go with a defeat, but we still have the return leg.”

Atleti have a difficult test ahead of them, to overcome a goal deficit against the Premier League leaders, but they have already produced a second leg masterclass this season to beat Manchester United.

Simeone is rather good at putting together solid plans with his side at home and being the underdogs, so Atletico Madrid are very much alive and kicking heading into that second leg.
