Atletico Madrid still alive despite slender first leg defeat to Manchester City

Atletico Madrid will go into their second leg clash with Manchester City needing at least one goal following defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

Los Rojiblancos managed to keep things tight in their Champions League quarter final first leg tie with Pep Guardiola‘s men.

The conceded just two efforts on target, but paid the price at the other end, largely failing to test Ederson after managing just one shot on goal themselves.

Diego Simeone‘s men were beaten thanks to a fine move from the home side, with Phil Foden putting together some excellent footwork ahead of playing in Kevin de Bruyne, who slotted home excellently.

The goal could be key, with Atleti now needing to score at least one in the second leg in a week’s time.

Simeone’s men did manage to produce the goods in their second leg against Manchester United in the last round, but City should be much tougher opposition.

In any case, the slender defeat is far from a disastrous result for Los Rojiblancos given City are overwhelming favourites for this tie.
