Sporting Director Monchi searches for the answers to Sevilla’s injury crisis

Few people have as much power at Sevilla as their Sporting Director Monchi and the transfer guru has assigned himself a new task this international break.

Few teams have been hindered as much by injuries as Sevilla this season. Rarely has manager Julen Loptegui been able to call on his first XI this season and throughout the campaign, hasn’t had a fully fit squad.

Marca carried quotes that Monchi had made on Canal Sur where the mastermind behind Sevilla looked to tackle the problem.

“There are many explanations, we are carrying out an analysis and trying to find the reason, in addition to analysing what he could have done well or badly.”

“Now isn’t the moment to draw conclusions, it’s the moment to focus all of our positive energy on the players that are available and look forward. At the end of the season it will be time to analyse and look for solutions.”

Sevilla are currently without Thomas Delaney, Papu Gomez, Marcos Acuna and Fernando Reges. Although they have been gradually recuperating players with Erik Lamela, Rafa Mir, Diego Carlos and Karim Rekik all set to be available for their next match.

They travel to Barcelona this weekend to try and retain second spot against an in-form Blaugrana. After exit from the Europa League at the hands of West Ham, Sevilla will be keen to finish the season well and secure the runners-up medal.
