Julen Lopetegui reveals he’ll always be grateful for what Sevilla have done for his career

Sevilla face a pivotal, season-defining few months. The Andalusian outfit are currently second in La Liga, six points behind league leaders Real Madrid. They’ve also got a Europa League last 16 clash to look forward to against West Ham United.

Julen Lopetegui took over at Sevilla in the summer of 2019 and has since led them to back-to-back top four finishes. He’s also led them to victory in the Europa League in his first season in charge.

He’s done fine work at the Sanchez-Pizjuan, bouncing back from the well-documented disappointment he suffered with the Spanish national team and Madrid as well as ignoring interest during this previous close-season from Tottenham Hotspur.

“It’s an honour and a pride to be the coach of Sevilla,” Lopetegui said in comments carried by Marca. “I feel fully fulfilled to be in Seville and at Sevilla. Yes, there has been interest, like in the summer, but we decided to be where we wanted to be. We still want to be here and we are very happy. I feel part of Sevilla. Three years develop real roots. I’m very grateful and I will always be grateful for what Sevilla has done for my career.”

Sevilla, fresh off victory over Real Betis in El Gran Derbi at the Sanchez-Pizjuan on Sunday afternoon, take on Deportivo Alaves this Friday evening before hosting West Ham United on Thursday in the first leg of their last 16 clash. They then travel to Rayo Vallecano before going to London for their European return leg.
