Sevilla are set to be without Erik Lamela for up to four months.

Lamela was part of a swap deal involving Bryan Gil and Tottenham over the summer that divided opinion among fans.

Since then, the Argentine has done well for Los Nervionenses, scoring four and assisting twice from out wide, making 16 appearances across all competitions to date.

But in a fresh blow, Lamela will now be ruled out for up to four months due to a shoulder injury he suffered in training recently.

The winger had missed Sevilla’s last two La Liga outings as he underwent assessment on the injury.

But it has now been decided that the injury will require an operation, which will take place today (Friday), and it will keep Lamela out until around March time.

The news is a big blow for Sevilla, who are hoping to challenge for the title, as well as keep their Champions League campaign alive.

And it is also a blow for Lamela, who has been particularly injury prone over the course of his career.

The 29-year-old will be hoping to make a speedy recovery, and that Sevilla are still in the title race and some sort of European competition by the time he returns.
